ABB Launches RB 1000i-S Paint Atomizer for Enhanced Efficiency and Sustainability

ABB has introduced the RB 1000i-S paint atomizer, designed to improve the efficiency of automotive paint shops. Mounted on ABB robots, the RB 1000i-S promises a 10% increase in transfer efficiency compared to its predecessor, the RB 1000i, which translates into reduced paint waste by at least 30% and a decrease in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

The improved design of the RB 1000i-S aims to help manufacturers meet their sustainability targets by lowering volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and optimizing energy use during the paint application process.

In practical terms, the potential savings are significant. For a factory producing 200,000 cars annually, where each vehicle requires 2.5 liters of paint, the RB 1000i-S could help save 50,000 liters of paint per year. This equates to approximately USD 500,000 in direct cost savings.

Manufacturers can integrate the new RB 1000i-S with a new paint robot or retrofit their existing RB 1000i systems using an upgrade kit, supporting the circular economy by extending product lifespans.

This latest release complements ABB’s broader suite of robotic solutions aimed at enhancing resource efficiency and sustainability in the manufacturing sector. Solutions like ABB’s Energy Efficiency Service and the OmniCore™ controller provide additional energy savings, further helping companies lower their environmental impact while cutting operational costs.
