Kia brings the Seltos to Europe for the first time, new hybrid SUV leans on V2L and electric all wheel drive
Kia will launch the Seltos in Europe for the first time, and the company is tying the model quite openly to the needs of markets where electrification is moving at a slower pace. The new compact SUV will arrive in Europe with both petrol and hybrid power, but Kia’s European material already puts clear emphasis on the Seltos Hybrid, highlighting its V2L function, electric all wheel drive and towing capacity of up to 1,000 kilograms.
Kia first revealed the second generation Seltos as a global model in December 2025, but its European debut marks a new step for the badge. The brand’s official European launch page confirms that the model is coming here for the first time and will follow two distinct powertrain paths. The standard Seltos is pitched with all wheel drive and towing capacity of up to 1,300 kilograms, while the Seltos Hybrid focuses on efficiency, V2L and electric all wheel drive driven by an electric motor. Kia also stresses that this is still a pre production version, so the final technical figures may change before homologation.
In practical terms, Kia is trying to plant the Seltos right in the part of the market where buyers still want a conventional SUV, but now expect some of the tricks they have already seen in electric cars. That is why the Seltos’s most persuasive selling point sounds less like a traditional hybrid and more like EV tech without the full EV commitment. V2L, a broad suite of driver assistance systems, next generation connectivity and hybrid all wheel drive all push it in that direction.
Whether that will be enough in Europe’s fiercely contested compact SUV class depends less on the sales pitch and more on the number Kia has not yet revealed. Marketing can do its usual heavy lifting, but in this segment the price list tends to have the final word.
