Maserati in Brussels: The Century-Old Trident Seeks Its Place in the Electric Era

Maserati, currently navigating a sea of challenges, craves attention like oxygen and thus opened its "Year of the Trident" at the 2026 Brussels Motor Show. The occasion marks a century since the brand’s iconic emblem first graced the nose of a racing car, and the Italians arrived in Belgium with a calculated dose of confidence. They presented a blend of historical heritage and an inevitable electric future, yet while the models on display aimed to project an image of uninterrupted elegance, it is clear that Maserati is at a crossroads, striving to bridge the theatrical traditions of Modena with the silent performance of electric motors.

The centerpiece of the exhibit was the MCPURA Cielo, a supercar featuring a refreshed design and an "Aqua Rainbow" paint finish intended to showcase the creative reach of the brand’s Fuoriserie bespoke division. Beneath its skin pulses the Nettuno V6 engine, a final salute to Maserati’s gasoline-fueled racing DNA. Standing alongside it was the GranCabrio Folgore, which proudly claims the title of the world’s fastest electric convertible with a top speed of 290 kilometers per hour. It is a bold statement through which the Italians aim to prove that even without the roar of an internal combustion engine, it is possible to deliver an experience worthy of the trident.

Particular interest was drawn to a project titled Meccanica Lirica, consisting of two unique examples created as a tribute to Modena’s operatic heritage. The deep Rosso Velluto hue of the GranTurismo was designed to evoke the velvet curtains of an opera house, while the golden Oro Lirico of the GranCabrio captured the brilliance of stage lighting. These cars are treated as curated works of art where material selection and finishing are taken to the extreme, reminding us that Maserati does not merely sell vehicles but status and cultural belonging.

Representing the more practical side of electrification was the Grecale Folgore, which promises a range of up to 580 kilometers and features a smart all-wheel-drive system capable of disconnecting the front axle to conserve energy. Debuting beside it in Europe was the Grecale Lumina Blu special edition, which, with its Pegaso wheels and yellow brake calipers, was designed for those who find standard luxury too restrained. This entire showcase serves as a symbolic launch for a year intended to solidify Maserati’s position in the global luxury market, as the brand hopes that a skillful mix of history and innovation will be enough to keep customers loyal for the next hundred years.
