Škoda Peaq: A Czech Electric Flagship Aspiring to the Summit

Škoda has moved to end speculation regarding the name of its largest electric vehicle to date, announcing that the production model evolved from the 2022 Vision 7S concept will be named the Peaq. According to Škoda board member Martin Jahn, this seven-seater giant is intended to take the brand’s core values, spaciousness and practicality, to an entirely new level, representing the absolute pinnacle of their model lineup. The name itself is no coincidence; it is designed to symbolize the car's position in the Škoda hierarchy, directly referencing the English word "peak."

While the full-scale debut is still about six months away, enough details have been released to keep expectations high. The model is the direct successor to the five-meter-long Vision 7S prototype, which skillfully balanced the line between an MPV and an SUV. The Czech automaker took its time transitioning from concept to production, justifying the pause by the need to thoroughly reimagine the brand’s visual language and future strategy. The Peaq stands as the culmination of this new, modern era for Škoda, offering a full-fledged seven-seat interior on an all-electric platform for the first time.

Technically, Škoda has remained tight-lipped for now, but the heritage of the concept suggests a driving range of approximately 600 kilometers on a single charge. This positions the Peaq as a direct competitor to large electric SUVs, aiming to win over families who have previously had to settle for more cramped conditions. The lengthy development period has allowed Škoda to fine-tune its new design direction, which has already hinted at its presence in other recent models but will find its purest and most grand expression in the Peaq.

The public is expected to see the new flagship in all its glory this summer, when specific performance figures and battery capacities will finally be revealed. It appears Škoda is betting everything on size and comfort, hoping that a seven-seat interior and a name signifying "peak" status will be enough to stand out in the increasingly crowded segment of large electric SUVs.
