Stellantis brings the ultra compact Leapmotor T03 LCV electric van to Europe

Stellantis has widened its European commercial vehicle line up with a decidedly niche addition, turning the Chinese built Leapmotor T03 city car into a van. The new T03 LCV is aimed squarely at urban logistics and last mile delivery, where compact dimensions, electric running and a low purchase price matter more than old fashioned van credentials.

The company has now launched the Leapmotor T03 LCV in Europe, using the existing T03 as its base. Engineers removed the rear seats and turned the space behind the front row into a 657 litre load area, positioning the model for courier work and small scale city distribution rather than anything more ambitious.

At 3.62 metres long and with a payload of 220 kilograms, the T03 LCV sits firmly in the micro logistics category. This is not a van in the traditional sense. It is a small, inexpensive tool for businesses that need something light, simple and easy to thread through crowded streets.

The powertrain stays unchanged from the passenger car. The T03 LCV uses a 70 kW electric motor and a 37.3 kWh battery, good for a WLTP range of up to 256 kilometres. On DC fast charging, Stellantis says the battery can go from 30 to 80 per cent in 36 minutes.

Prices start at €14,590 excluding VAT. Orders open in selected European Union markets in April, with first deliveries due in the summer.

The significance of the T03 LCV goes beyond one tiny van. Stellantis is using Leapmotor’s Chinese sourced EV platform to bring a commercial vehicle to Europe with the lowest possible cost base. That tells its own story. The group increasingly sees Chinese electric car technology not as a side project, but as a practical way to cover the bottom end of Europe’s commercial vehicle market.
