Volkswagen to Launch an Affordable Electric Car
Volkswagen is gearing up to introduce a budget-friendly electric vehicle, with its biggest selling point being a competitive price tag of around €20,000. Designed for the European market and built in Europe, the new model will be manufactured at the Wolfsburg plant, which will also house the future production of the ID. 2all.
The concept car’s world premiere is scheduled for March 2025, with a production-ready version expected to roll out in 2027. According to Daniella Cavallo, Chair of Volkswagen AG’s General and Local Works Council, the new model will be a true Volkswagen—offering high quality at an affordable price, with an estimated cost of around €20,000.
Alongside the ID. 2all, the new budget-friendly EV will be part of Volkswagen’s subcompact electric vehicle lineup, developed under the Brand Group Core umbrella. These models will be built on an enhanced version of the MEB platform. The first to hit the market will be the ID. 2all, scheduled for a 2026 launch, with a slightly higher price point—just under €25,000.
The Wolfsburg facility is set to become a key production hub for Volkswagen’s electric lineup. Following the relocation of internal combustion Golf production to Mexico, the plant will introduce new manufacturing processes to support the next-generation electric Golf, which will be built on the SSP (Scalable System Platform) architecture, as well as an electric T-Roc.
