Jaanus Murakas, operational manager of the East Prefecture, speaks:
“According to preliminary data, a severe traffic accident occurred when the Audi car traveling from Tallinn to Jõhvi drifted into oncoming traffic and collided with the Infiniti car. It’s still too early to say why the Audi drifted into oncoming traffic, and we have initiated a criminal investigation to determine the circumstances. At the time of the accident, there was strong wind and rain.
The weather has been changeable and windy in recent weeks, and there has already been frost at night. The changing weather and increasingly dark evenings definitely make road conditions more difficult, so I ask all road users to take this into account and choose their driving style accordingly.”
The accident happened on a road section where the maximum speed limit is 90 km/h. Traffic in both directions was opened around 5 p.m.
