Mysterious Seven-Seater SUV: Mitsubishi Unveils First Images

Mitsubishi has
revealed the first glimpses of its brand-new seven-seater SUV, a
model that remains nameless for now. This vehicle marks a new
direction for the automaker and will make its debut in the
Philippines. The official unveiling is set to take place on October
24th at a local auto show. Although it will initially be presented as
a concept, there is a strong likelihood that it will soon transition
into a fully-fledged production model.

The initial teaser
images provide a tantalizing look at the SUV’s front end, which
features distinctive hood air vents, intricately designed headlights,
and a striking hexagonal-patterned panel in place of a traditional
grille. Another image reveals part of the rear end, showcasing sporty
louvers near the rear pillar, contributing to the vehicle’s dynamic
and modern aesthetic.

Judging by the
proportions between the rear door and the tailgate, this concept
appears to be smaller than the rugged Pajero Sport. It’s possible
that the vehicle serves as a preview of the next-generation Pajero
Sport, which might share its platform with the Triton pickup (better
known in some markets as the L200). However, the relatively short
rear overhang suggests another possibility: the concept could be an
elongated version of the Mitsubishi Xforce, a budget-friendly
crossover designed specifically for Southeast Asian markets and
launched just last year.

If the new
seven-seater does share its underpinnings with the Xforce, it would
likely be powered by the same 1.5-liter naturally aspirated
four-cylinder engine, producing 105 horsepower and mated to a CVT
(continuously variable transmission). As with the original Xforce,
this setup would favor a front-wheel-drive configuration, making it a
practical and cost-effective option for families seeking a versatile
yet affordable vehicle.

What’s
particularly intriguing is the timing of this concept’s reveal,
which follows closely on the heels of Mitsubishi’s facelifted
Outlander launch. The updated Outlander now features a larger battery
pack, a more powerful 2.4-liter engine, and an enhanced suspension
system equipped with hydraulic bushings for improved ride comfort and
handling. Externally, however, the changes are subtle, preserving the
Outlander’s familiar and recognizable design.

So, Mitsubishi seems
keen to expand its product lineup with vehicles that cater to diverse
markets and customer needs. As for this mysterious new seven-seater,
all eyes will be on October 24th, when we can finally expect some
answers and a clearer picture of what Mitsubishi has in store for its
next big release.
