Radford to participate in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb
Radford is gonna debut their cool Pikes Peak Edition Type 62-2 next month at The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. It’s gonna happen on Sunday, June 25th, 2023, and Gran Turismo is bringing it to you! The famous rally and race car driver, Tanner Foust, who won his class at the 2021 event, will be the one driving the car up the mountain.
The Type 62-2 is a real global effort. Radford worked with a bunch of partners and suppliers from all over to bring this car from an idea to the actual mountain in a short time. They finished designing the car in France, made the drivetrain in Austria, printed the all-new carbon monocoque in the UK, and put it all together at Radford’s HQ in California.
This race-ready version of the Type 62-2 only weighs 861 kgs and uses most of the same bodywork as the standard version. They did make the body of the car 230mm wider, though, and used a full composite monocoque instead of the aluminum-based chassis. They also upgraded the front and rear subframes, as well as the suspension geometry. To make the car more aerodynamic and efficient, they changed the underbody and added a big gooseneck rear airfoil. They also did a bunch of computer simulations to make sure everything is perfect for max downforce and balanced aerodynamics.
JUBU Performance built a special drivetrain just for this car, with higher performance and sequential shifting. It’s a one-of-a-kind drivetrain that will produce 710HP from the supercharged 3.5L V6 DOHC engine. With a paddle shift sequential gearbox, the car will reach a top speed of 160mph and go from 0-60mph in under 2.2 seconds! To make sure the car runs like a dream in the high altitude climate of Pikes Peak, Radford worked with Mobil1 to create a special oil mix. And, they used Optima Orangetop lithium batteries, which are lightweight and focus on power, performance, and reliability, to optimize the car’s weight.
