Volvo's electric flagship has software issues

Volvo and its sister brand, Polestar, have decided to delay the production starts of their flagship electric SUVs due to software issues. Volvo’s EX90 all-electric flagship will now begin production in the first half of 2024, instead of the previously announced fourth quarter of 2023. Similarly, Polestar has pushed back the production start of the Polestar 3 to the first quarter of 2024. Both vehicles share Volvo’s new electric platform.

The decision to delay production was made to ensure a high-quality experience for customers. By conducting further work on the software, Volvo aims to address any issues and provide a reliable and satisfactory product. Despite the delay, demand for the EX90 remains strong.

This delay reflects a common challenge faced by automakers as they strive to align complex development and production schedules for vehicles equipped with advanced digital features. Other manufacturers, such as Volkswagen Group and EV startup Fisker, have also encountered software-related difficulties, resulting in delays and adjustments to their production plans.
