World-Class Tech Powers New Ford Street-Legal Performance Car
In 2021, concealed within a metal storage garage tucked behind the imposing structure of a wind tunnel facility in Allen Park, Michigan, a small group of team members embarked on an ambitious after-hours endeavor. On paper, their mission appeared as a daring and unattainable dream: to craft a Mustang capable of challenging the elite European sports cars.
The outcome is nothing short of remarkable – an exclusive, limited-edition, street-legal performance car of unparalleled capabilities, infused with the quintessential essence of a Mustang.
Stepping onto the stage today is the revolutionary 2025 Ford Mustang® GTD, an embodiment of technological prowess, inspired by the forthcoming Mustang GT3 slated for a Le Mans racing debut next year. Unapologetically embracing its heritage and delivering an awe-inspiring performance, its elegantly sculpted, predominantly carbon fiber wide body, coupled with the commanding presence of its rear wing, conveys its essence in a single, arresting glance. This is a Mustang unlike any other that has graced the roads.
According to Jim Farley, President and CEO of Ford, “Mustang GTD shatters every preconceived notion of a supercar. This marks a fresh approach for us – not engineering a road car for the track, but conceiving a race car for the road. Mustang GTD inherits the racing technology of our Mustang GT3 race car, enveloped within the carbon fiber frame of a Mustang, and released onto the streets.”
Every meticulous facet of the Mustang GTD serves a purpose. Its form is guided by its function. The design revolves around one singular objective: achieving swifter speeds on the racetrack, propelled by technology exceeding that found in the race cars that have served as its foundation. The lineage of the Mustang GTD traces back to the same minds that have engineered Ford’s iconic Mustang race cars and the triumphant Le Mans-winning GT. It has been meticulously engineered to be the fastest road-bound Mustang in existence.
The Mustang GTD is firmly bonded to the asphalt through astounding downforce generated by its active aerodynamics, while substantial grip is achieved via the colossal tires affixed to its advanced dual ride height short-long arm front and multi-link rear suspension. Its halting power is assured by carbon ceramic brakes, complemented by an 8-speed dual-clutch transaxle mounted at the rear and a lightweight carbon fiber driveshaft, harmoniously contributing to nearly equal weight distribution between the front and rear. It is driven by a symphonic, supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine, embodying a wicked velocity, with an estimated output of 800 horsepower.
