Ferrari unveils limited-series 499P Modificata
Ferrari unveiled the 499P Modificata at the Ferrari World Finals in Mugello, marking the company’s return to top-class endurance racing in the 2023 season. The limited-series car, designed for non-competitive track use, is a modified version of the 499P that triumphed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June 2023. Ferrari aims to establish a new benchmark for track driving thrills with this model.
This track-only car, created directly from a racing car rather than a production model, breaks free from technical regulations, allowing for substantial modifications. Not bound by FIA WEC parameters, the 499P Modificata introduces features like an electric axle and four-wheel drive, “Push to Pass” function, specific Pirelli tires, and recalibration of suspension, electronic controllers, and engine mappings.
Retaining the cockpit layout of the 499P, the 499P Modificata provides the same driving experience as the Le Mans-winning racing cars. The car will participate in the Sport Prototipi Clienti program from 2024, running alongside the existing F1 Clienti program. Ferrari will handle logistics, track-side assistance, and maintenance for 499P Modificata owners during various international track events.
The hybrid powertrain combines a mid-rear mounted internal combustion V6 with an electric motor on the front axle, delivering a maximum power output of 640 kW (870 cv). The powertrain features a load-bearing V6 engine, an Energy Recovery System (ERS), and a 200 kW (272 cv) electric motor. The 800-volt battery pack, developed using Formula 1 experience, couples with a seven-speed sequential gearbox.
The 499P Modificata’s carbon-fibre monocoque chassis incorporates advanced solutions such as push-rod suspension and brake-by-wire braking system. The car introduces new solutions like activating the front axle at low speed and the “Push to Pass” system, offering extra power for a limited period during the lap.
Designed in collaboration with the Ferrari Styling Centre, the 499P Modificata showcases its technical and aerodynamic qualities through simple, sinuous forms. The car’s rear features a horizontal double wing and a lightweight carbon-fibre skin wrapping around the powertrain.
Celebrating Ferrari’s history in endurance racing, the 499P Modificata joins the Sport Prototipi Clienti program, allowing owners to participate in dedicated track events with Ferrari’s support from 2024.
