NIO Advances in European EV Market with PSS 3.0
NIO announced the continued success of its third-generation Power Swap Station (PSS) 3.0.
PSS 3.0, NIO’s advanced battery swap technology, is already operational in Europe. Over 30 PSS locations are now functional across Denmark, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, and Sweden, catering to 98% of NIO users. These users, subscribed to NIO’s Battery as a Service (BaaS) leasing model, can enjoy the benefits of owning a vehicle without being tied to a single battery.
NIO’s PSS solution is tailored to maintain the residual values of smart EVs. Users subscribing to the NIO BaaS model can continually update their batteries, thereby addressing concerns related to battery degradation. This model ensures that users are not restricted to one specific vehicle battery and are supported technically throughout their subscription. In China, NIO users have the flexibility to upgrade or downgrade their batteries as per their requirements, allowing customization of vehicle range and battery specifications over time.
NIO’s latest PSS 3.0 can perform up to 408 swaps daily, holding up to 21 vehicle batteries at each station. This technology, ensuring a quick battery swap within three minutes without requiring users to exit their car or wait for recharging, epitomizes efficiency and convenience in EV usage.
With the recent inauguration of new PSS 3.0 stations in Malmö and Arlandastad, Sweden, NIO is rapidly expanding its network of battery swap facilities in Europe. Since January 2022, five PSS 3.0 and 25 other PSS locations have been established across NIO’s European markets.
The third-generation PSS 3.0 locations come equipped with a 2-megawatt hour (MWh) energy storage system, capable of feeding energy back into the grid. PSS 3.0 also promises an enhanced battery swapping experience, reduced by 20%.
