Škoda Auto Integrates ChatGPT into Its Voice Assistant

Škoda Auto has announced a significant upgrade to its voice assistant, Laura, by integrating the AI-powered chatbot, ChatGPT. This integration marks a major advancement in enhancing the driving experience for many customers, simplifying daily life on the road. The feature will be implemented in Škoda models based on the MEB GP and MQB EVO platforms. These vehicles will have access to an extensive AI database, allowing content to be read aloud during drives. The new functionality is built on Cerence Chat Pro technology from Cerence Inc., offering a tailored ChatGPT integration for automobiles. Throughout, personal data and vehicle information remain securely protected.

The new chatbot is set to debut with the latest generation of infotainment systems starting from mid-2024. It will be available in selected versions of the Škoda Enyaq, the next generation of Škoda Superb and Kodiaq, as well as the updated Škoda Octavia. The integration of ChatGPT into Laura’s voice assistant via Cerence Chat Pro introduces numerous capabilities beyond traditional voice commands. Users can employ the assistant for tasks like navigation, climate control, and answering general knowledge questions. As AI technology evolves, it will provide additional information in response to more complex queries, continually expanding its capabilities. This feature can enhance in-car conversations, clarify queries, interact in intuitive language, access vehicle-specific information, and more – all hands-free for increased safety for both drivers and passengers.

Operation remains simple for the driver: the voice assistant is activated by saying “Okay, Laura” or using a dedicated button on the steering wheel. If a query cannot be addressed by Škoda’s system, it is anonymously redirected to the AI. ChatGPT does not access vehicle data or personal information. All interactions are deleted immediately after processing, ensuring the highest standard of data protection. This innovative feature will also be available in models of other Volkswagen Group brands.
