The Dominance of HiPhi Z in the EV Range Test
In a remarkable display of engineering prowess and efficiency, the HiPhi Z, an electric vehicle (EV) from the Chinese company Human Horizons, has significantly outperformed its competitors in a comprehensive EV range test. Conducted under the cold weather conditions ranging from -11°C to +4°C, the HiPhi Z achieved an impressive range of 522 kilometers, setting a new benchmark in EV performance in adverse weather conditions.
The test, orchestrated by the Norwegian Automobile Federation and Motor magazine, aimed to establish an industry standard for electric vehicle range and charging speed. Among the 23 competitors, including notable models such as the Audi Q8 e-tron, BMW i5, BYD Dolphin, Ford F-150 Lightning, Hyundai Ioniq 6, and Tesla Model 3, the HiPhi Z was the only vehicle to keep its deviation from the certified WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure) range numbers under 10%—specifically, a mere 5.9% less.
This achievement not only underscores the HiPhi Z’s superior battery efficiency and design but also highlights the advancements in electric vehicle technology by Chinese manufacturers. The top five performers in the range test included three other Chinese models: the Nio EL5 (481 km), Lotus Eletre (465 km), and Nio EL6 (456 km), with the Hyundai Ioniq 6 also showing strong performance at 468 kilometers.
The success of the HiPhi Z and its peers can be attributed to several key technological advancements, particularly the Efficient Thermal Management System. Dubbed the CrossLoop Efficient Thermal Management System, it combines an efficient heat pump with an AC HVAC system and a smart E-Powertrain thermal management system. This integration forms an energy-efficient and intelligent thermal system, allowing the vehicle’s battery to operate more effectively, especially in cold weather.
The route chosen for this test was far from straightforward, featuring the challenging terrain of the Dovrefjell mountain area, the storm “Ingunn,” and the Venabygdsfjellet mountain pass. These conditions tested the vehicles’ endurance and performance, simulating real-world scenarios that drivers might face.
The outcomes of this range test are critical for the EV industry, providing valuable insights into how different models perform under extreme conditions and setting a new standard for what consumers can expect from electric vehicles in terms of range and reliability. The HiPhi Z’s leading performance is a testament to Human Horizons’ commitment to innovation and their ability to push the boundaries of EV technology. As electric vehicles continue to evolve, tests like these are essential for advancing the industry and helping consumers make informed decisions about their next electric vehicle purchase.
