The new MINI Cooper
Following the introduction of the all-new MINI Cooper Electric, the Cooper family has expanded with the addition of two new petrol models: the MINI Cooper C and the performance-enhanced MINI Cooper S. These new models embody the minimalist design, traditional brand values, and iconic go-kart handling characteristic of the MINI lineage. Stefanie Wurst, Head of MINI, emphasized the brand’s commitment to offering a “Power of Choice” by providing petrol engine options alongside all-electric models for those who appreciate the classic MINI experience with a combustion engine.
The new MINI Cooper models will be produced at MINI Plant Oxford and are available in three trim levels: Classic, Exclusive, and Sport, starting at an RRP of £22,300. Customers can expect first deliveries in spring 2024. Both models boast powerful petrol engines, with the MINI Cooper S featuring a 204 hp four-cylinder engine capable of accelerating from 0-62 mph in 6.6 seconds, and the MINI Cooper C equipped with a 156 hp three-cylinder engine, achieving 0-62 mph in 7.7 seconds. Both variants offer enhanced driving experiences with their suspension, damping systems, and powerful brakes.
The design of the fifth-generation MINI Cooper is a testament to the brand’s core principles, featuring a purist and compact silhouette with short overhangs, a short bonnet, and a contrasting long wheelbase. The vehicle’s exterior is modernized by eliminating chrome elements and introducing a new octagonal grille, customizable LED headlights, and redesigned matrix lights at the rear.
Customers have the opportunity to personalize their MINI Cooper with three individual trims, each offering a range of exterior and interior customization options. The Classic trim presents a simplified appearance, the Exclusive trim adds further customization options including British Racing Green exterior paint and Vescin Nightshade Blue interior, and the Sport trim offers a distinctive design with a high-gloss black grille surround, rear spoiler, and 18” JCW Lap Spoke 2-Tone Alloy wheels.
The interior design is inspired by the classic Mini, featuring a minimalistic cockpit focused on the Vescin steering wheel, a circular OLED display, and a toggle bar. The dashboard utilizes a two-tone, recycled polyester textile surface, and a panoramic glass sunroof enhances cabin light. The rear seats can be folded down to expand the luggage compartment from 210 liters to up to 725 liters.
A circular, 24cm OLED display is central to the MINI Cooper’s interior, offering touch or voice control via MINI Operating System 9. The display is divided to show vehicle-related information and navigation, media, phone, and climate controls. Seven MINI Experience Modes allow drivers to personalize the cabin atmosphere, with each mode focusing on a relevant “Mode App” and ambient lighting to match.
The MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant (IPA) can be activated with “Hey MINI”, enabling voice control of navigation, telephony, entertainment, and other vehicle functions. The new MINI Cooper also features driver assistance systems such as Safe Exit, which monitors the area around the parked vehicle and warns of potential collisions, and the Driving Assistant Plus package, offering support for steering, lane keeping, and automatic speed and distance control.
Finally, the MINI Digital Key Plus function allows customers to use their smartphones as a car key, offering a welcome animation and convenient unlocking as the driver approaches. This feature can be digitally transferred to different users, along with their personal vehicle settings, enhancing the ownership experience.
