The new Porsche Panamera is undergoing final test drives in Barcelona

Just before its launch, the new Panamera is in the final stages of testing. Engineers in Barcelona and nearby areas are meticulously inspecting the details of the new model generation. The four-door sports car has already completed the majority of its testing, showcasing its capabilities on four continents. For example, tests in the US evaluated its performance at high altitudes with low oxygen levels, as well as the engine-cooling system and air conditioning in extreme heat. In Scandinavia, it endured frigid temperatures, while in South Africa, it tackled challenging road conditions. In Asia, high humidity and hours of stop-and-go traffic in megacities presented unique challenges for the vehicle.

The new Panamera now offers four E-Hybrid variants to address the demand for sustainable drivetrains and efficiency. The new Panamera boasts enhanced electrical performance across all E-Hybrid models, particularly in driving dynamics, electric range, and charging speed. It achieves up to 70 percent greater electric range than its predecessor.

The foundation of all E-Hybrid models in the new Panamera is a more powerful electric motor fully integrated into the transmission housing of the new dual-clutch transmission. This electric motor offers superior performance with recuperation capabilities at a reduced weight. It draws power from a high-voltage battery with a significantly increased capacity of 25.9 kWh. Additionally, an 11 kW onboard charger reduces charging times despite the higher energy content.

Significant revisions to the combustion engines contribute to increased efficiency and performance. All drivetrains in the new Panamera are prepared to meet future emission standards. Arno Bögl, project manager for the drivetrain in the Panamera product line, expressed his satisfaction, saying, “I’m delighted with the progress we have made with electrification. The integration and combination of two drive systems in the Panamera works absolutely seamlessly and harmoniously. With the new drivetrains, the car radiates tremendous ease and reliability when accelerating.”

The new Panamera introduces an optional high-end chassis with active damper control and various additional functions. Thomas Friemuth explained, “With the active chassis, we are setting new standards. We could feel this on every meter of our test drives—very comfortable on cobblestones in Barcelona harbor, and highly dynamic and agile on winding country roads outside the city—a remarkable range.” The standard chassis in the new Panamera features semi-active chassis technology with new two-valve shock absorbers, enhancing the spectrum between comfort and high-performance tuning.

The final touches are being made to the new Panamera during these test drives before its world premiere. Porsche will unveil the third generation of the four-door sports car at the Icons of Porsche Festival in Dubai on November 24, 2023, with public display on November 25-26, 2023.
