World premiere: Volkswagen ID.7

Volkswagen just unveiled the ID.7, its first global electric model for the upper mid-size class. With a range of up to 700 km (WLTP), a powerful powertrain, and a roomy interior with premium tech, the ID.7 is perfect for long-distance travel and opens up a new segment for the ID. family. It’s almost five meters long and has an improved customer-focused operating concept and a sleek appearance. The ID.7 will launch in Europe and China later this year and in North America from 2024.

The ID.7 is the first MEB model with a completely new, highly efficient drive generation. It’s got 210 kW (286 PS), making it the most powerful and highest-torque electric drive motor in a Volkswagen ID. model so far. The power unit, named APP550, was created in collaboration with Volkswagen Group Components in Kassel (Germany) and produced there. The electric drive has been optimised for energy consumption, and WLTP ranges of up to 700 km and charging capacities of up to about 200 kW are predicted, making the ID.7 a suitable option for frequent drivers and fleet customers.

The ID.7 is almost five meters long and designed with aerodynamic principles in mind. Its roof slopes elegantly to the rear in a coupe style, contributing to its excellent drag coefficient of about 0.23 depending on the vehicle equipment. The long wheelbase and short overhangs provide plenty of space in the vehicle interior for all occupants.

Volkswagen has introduced a new operating and display concept in the ID.7, taking into account customer feedback and improving the operating experience in relevant areas. It includes a 38-centimetre (15-inch) infotainment system screen, augmented reality head-up display, a new air conditioning operating concept, and backlit touch sliders, among other features.

You can travel up to 700 kilometres on a single charge (WLTP), and with a powerful 210 kW electric drive motor, it’s perfect for long distance travel. Plus, it’s almost five metres long with a spacious interior, making it super comfy for all occupants.

But wait, there’s more! The ID.7 also comes with some top-of-the-line equipment options that you usually only find in more expensive premium cars. Like the electronically dimmable panoramic sunroof, which can be controlled with touch or voice commands, and even switches between opaque and transparent settings. And how about those new front seats that come with adaptive seat Climatronic, cooling, heating, drying functions, and even a massage function that’s certified by the German Campaign for Healthier Backs (AGR)? You’ll feel like you’re in a spa!

The ID.7 also has a killer sound system from Harman Kardon with 14 high-end loudspeakers, and Travel Assist with swarm data that can take over lateral and longitudinal control of the car when needed. You can even use Travel Assist for assisted lane changing on the multi-lane motorway at speeds above 90 km/h. And when it comes to parking, the ID.7 can even perform assisted manoeuvres in different ways, like parking with memory function over a distance of up to 50 metres.
