All-new Honda CR-V
Honda has introduced the sixth generation of its highly popular SUV, the CR-V, which is expected to set new standards for design, practicality, and everyday usability upon its arrival in Europe later this year.
Unveiled at the European Media Event in Offenbach, Germany, the latest CR-V has undergone comprehensive refinements to create a versatile SUV that excels in all aspects. It seamlessly combines Honda’s renowned advanced and sporty values with the latest driver aids and passive safety features, resulting in exceptional reliability, dynamics, and comfort. Notably, a strong emphasis has been placed on employing high-quality colors, materials, and fabrics throughout the cabin, lending the CR-V a more premium feel.
European customers will have the option to choose between two powertrain variants: a full hybrid (e:HEV) and a plug-in hybrid (e:PHEV), marking the European market debut of the latter. Both options feature a 2.0-liter four-cylinder direct injection Atkinson-cycle petrol engine, which has been meticulously enhanced to optimize efficiency, refinement, and dynamic performance across the entire range.
Let’s dive into the details of each powertrain:
The e:PHEV version benefits from the same lightweight and high-output on-board electric motors as its e:HEV counterpart, delivering impressive acceleration, quick charging times, and a highly competitive all-electric range.
Capable of traveling up to 82 km solely on electric power, the plug-in CR-V enables the completion of the majority of daily trips without relying on the petrol engine. When the battery temperature is at 25 degrees, it takes just 2.5 hours to achieve a full 100% charge from empty.
The full hybrid CR-V showcases the most advanced iteration of Honda’s award-winning e:HEV powertrain, previously featured in the acclaimed Civic hatchback. It incorporates a power-dense lithium-ion battery and two compact, lightweight electric motors, working harmoniously with the petrol engine to seamlessly transition between EV, Hybrid, and Engine Drive modes. This versatility makes it ideally suited for a wide range of driving scenarios.
While the all-new CR-V retains its familiar silhouette, it has undergone a design evolution that enhances its road presence. The front end, in particular, exhibits purposeful styling, with the e:HEV and e:PHEV variants distinguished by their unique grille designs. Slim headlights, accompanied by new signature daytime running lights, contribute to a commanding visual impact. At the rear, the vertical brake light and turn signal combination represents a smart evolution of the instantly recognizable CR-V taillight design.
In summary, the sixth-generation Honda CR-V represents an impressive leap forward, combining design excellence, practicality, and cutting-edge powertrain options. It sets a new benchmark for SUVs, catering to the demands and preferences of discerning European customers.
