McMurtry to Bring 745 kW Production Spéirling PURE to Monterey
The production-spec McMurtry Spéirling PURE will make its global public debut at The Quail on 14 August during Monterey Car Week. The single-seat electric track car pairs a 745 kW powertrain with a twin-fan system capable of producing maximum downforce from a standstill.
Production Car Uses 95 Per Cent New Components
McMurtry will present the production version to the public for the first time at The Quail in California. The following day, it will move to Laguna Seca for display at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion. The Spéirling PURE will remain a static exhibit at both events.
McMurtry says 95 per cent of the car’s components are new compared with its prototypes. Battery capacity has increased from 60 kWh to 100 kWh, while the wheelbase has grown from 2.0 to 2.2 metres. A new carbon-fibre monocoque provides more elbow and leg room, a wider door opening and improved visibility through a repositioned A-pillar.
The larger battery and revised dimensions have increased mass from around 1,050 kg for the validation prototype to approximately 1,350 kg in production form, depending on specification. Two electric motors drive the rear wheels and produce a combined 745 kW, or 1,000 bhp. Top speed is 305 km/h.
McMurtry quotes a 0–60 mph time of 1.55 seconds, equivalent to 0–97 km/h, but the figure includes a one-foot rollout. Timing therefore begins after the car has travelled 30.5 cm, so the result is not directly comparable with a conventional standing-start 0–100 km/h test.
Fans Generate Downforce at a Standstill
The Spéirling PURE uses two fans spinning at up to 23,000 rpm. They draw air through filters from a sealed region beneath the chassis, creating suction that pulls the car towards the track regardless of its speed.
The system generates up to 19.6 kN of downforce, equivalent to the weight of roughly 2,000 kg, and can deliver it even when the car is stationary. Conventional wings and diffusers require fast-moving airflow to achieve a similar effect. McMurtry claims the Spéirling PURE can generate up to 3g in corners and 3g under braking.
For the production car, McMurtry has introduced more durable fan blades, new fan motors and cooling hardware, and revised underbody skirts. An onboard compressor allows the driver to retract the skirts independently for low-speed manoeuvring in the pits or when loading the car onto a trailer. The prototypes required an external air bottle to pre-charge the system.
McMurtry has also replaced the electric power steering with a hydraulic power-assisted system featuring Formula 1-style valving, intended to provide lighter steering and better feedback. The car now has headlights, indicators, hazard lights, brake lights and a main-beam flash function. A compartment beneath the swan-neck rear wing provides space for a helmet and HANS device.
Price Exceeds €1 Million
According to McMurtry, the Spéirling PURE can cover 40–50 km at LMP2 race-car pace. Charging the battery from 20 to 95 per cent takes between 20 and 60 minutes, depending on ambient temperature and charger capacity.
Production will be limited to no more than 100 cars, with customer deliveries due to begin later in 2026. The price starts at £995,000, or approximately €1.15 million, before local taxes, shipping and options.
The Spéirling PURE is not intended to compete with conventional electric hypercars on range or practicality. Its appeal lies in exceptional circuit performance and a fan system that maintains substantial downforce in slow corners, from a standstill and even in the event of a spin.
