Volkswagen prices its first electric GTI from €39,995 in Germany

Volkswagen has opened pre-orders for the ID. Polo GTI in Germany. The first all-electric GTI starts at €39,995, produces 166 kW and 290 Nm, and accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 6.8 seconds.
166 kW and front-wheel drive
The ID. Polo GTI features front-wheel drive and an electronically controlled front differential lock. Its top speed is 190 km/h. Volkswagen includes adaptive DCC sports suspension, progressive steering and a dedicated GTI driving mode as standard.
The electric GTI therefore retains the classic GTI principle: power still goes to the front wheels. The difference is that torque is delivered instantly, as is characteristic of an electric motor.
Range of up to 424 km
Volkswagen claims a WLTP range of up to 424 km for the ID. Polo GTI. Official average energy consumption is between 14.2 and 15.7 kWh/100 km.
The base ID. Polo starts at €24,995 in Germany, so the GTI commands a €15,000 premium for its sportier powertrain, chassis and equipment.
In the European market, the ID. Polo GTI sits clearly above a conventional small electric car, but its price remains at the lower end of the compact electric performance car segment.
