Dodge Durango adds blue-grey Sub-Zero paint to an 11-colour range
Dodge is adding blue-grey Sub-Zero to the 2027 Durango’s paint range, priced at $595 in the US. The fourth new exterior colour in four months takes the HEMI-powered SUV’s palette to 11 shades and expands the SRT Hellcat Jailbreak’s factory option combinations to more than 22 million.
Subdued in the shade, brighter in sunlight
According to Stellantis, Sub-Zero, which debuted on the Dodge Charger earlier in the year, is now joining the entire HEMI-powered Durango range. It is a non-metallic blue-grey paint that looks deeper and more subdued in the shade, but a brighter, cool blue in direct sunlight.
The new shade follows Redeye, added in August, After Dark, introduced in September, and Smokescreen, unveiled in October. The rest of the range comprises B5 Blue, Destroyer Grey, Green Machine, Night Moves, Pitch Black, Red Oxide and White Knuckle.
The news is therefore not about more power or new running gear, but the option to give the familiar SUV a more individual look straight from the factory.
The 2027 Durango HEMI range offers 11 exterior colours, including the new non-metallic blue-grey Sub-Zero.
GT HEMI AWD: 5.7-litre V8, approximately 268 kW; US suggested base price of $43,875.
R/T 392: approximately 354 kW; US suggested base price of $51,745.
SRT Hellcat and Hellcat Jailbreak: supercharged HEMI V8, approximately 529 kW; Jailbreak offers more than 22 million possible configurations.
The suggested extra cost for Sub-Zero in the US is $595; no information is available on European availability or pricing.
Jailbreak offers more than 22 million combinations
With the addition of Sub-Zero, the number of possible factory configurations for the Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak exceeds 22 million. The choices include exterior colours, stripes, wheels, brake callipers, badges, interior colours, seat options and sporty styling details.
That figure represents combinations of equipment and styling options, not different powertrains. The Jailbreak retains its supercharged HEMI V8, whose US-rated 710 hp equates to approximately 529 kW.
Three power levels, the same new colour
Sub-Zero can be ordered for the Durango GT HEMI AWD, R/T 392, SRT Hellcat and its Jailbreak version. The all-wheel-drive GT’s 5.7-litre HEMI V8 develops approximately 268 kW, the R/T 392 approximately 354 kW and the Hellcat 529 kW.
That leaves a gap of around 261 kW between the Hellcat and the GT. The new colour is not reserved for the flagship, however: its suggested extra cost in the US is $595 across the HEMI range. The GT HEMI AWD’s suggested base price there starts at $43,875, while the R/T 392 starts at $51,745.
The press release provides no information on European availability, pricing or type approval. European fuel consumption and emissions figures are also absent, so the US price list cannot be used to assess the car’s final price or running costs in Europe.
