Mopar to build just 270 distinctive-looking Dodge Chargers for its 90th anniversary
1/2 Mopar will celebrate its 90th anniversary in 2027 with a limited-production Dodge Charger. The Mopar '27 special edition features carbon-fibre body components, distinctive graphics and a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine producing 410 kW in its more powerful version. Just 270 cars will be built, with none officially destined for Europe.
Three colours and carbon-fibre body components
Mopar will offer the '27 package for the two-door Dodge Charger R/T and Scat Pack Plus models. Both receive a Direct Connection carbon-fibre front splitter, a bonnet with a functional air intake and a rear spoiler. A cold-air intake system helps the engine breathe more freely.
Exclusive bonnet and side graphics complement a choice of three exterior colours: Bludicrous blue, Diamond Black and White Knuckle white. Mopar will build exactly 90 cars in each colour. A dashboard badge identifies the special edition inside, while a numbered 90th-anniversary plaque sits in the engine bay. Each buyer also receives a certificate of authenticity for their car and an illustration created by Mopar's designers.
A six-cylinder engine replaces the old V8 character
The Charger R/T uses a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged SIXPACK straight-six producing 313 kW. The more powerful Scat Pack Plus delivers 410 kW and uses forged engine components and larger, 54 mm Garrett turbochargers. Both versions have all-wheel drive that can be switched to rear-wheel drive when needed.
The R/T accelerates from rest to 97 km/h in 4.6 seconds, while the Scat Pack Plus takes 3.9 seconds. Mopar's anniversary package does not increase engine output.
At the SEMA show, the manufacturer will also demonstrate a sports exhaust, stiffer springs and 21-inch Brass Monkey wheels. These components are not included in the anniversary package, but buyers can purchase them separately.
Exclusivity costs almost €9,500
Mopar is charging $10,995, or approximately €9,500, for the special equipment, on top of the car's base price. Orders open in January 2027, with production starting in spring that year. The US market will receive 243 cars and Canada 27. Mopar will first show the special edition in Las Vegas on 30 October, followed by the SEMA show on 3–6 November.
In Europe, the Mopar '27 will primarily be of interest to collectors. Dodge will not officially offer it in the region, and importing one individually would entail additional costs and the need to check compliance with local type-approval requirements.
Even so, the change is significant in the world of American muscle cars. Until recently, a special Charger almost inevitably meant a V8 engine. Now Dodge is creating exclusivity through a turbocharged six-cylinder engine, carbon fibre and limited production. The styling may be sharper than before, but decals cannot bring back the sound of an eight-cylinder engine.
