Jeep is reviving the Renegade, which ranked among the brand's European bestsellers for years. The new-generation small SUV will reach the market by 2030 at the latest. Meanwhile, the American manufacturer is preparing to launch larger models and promises to offer four-wheel drive across every model family.

Renegade returns to the European market

Jeep's European head, Xavier Peugeot, confirmed at the Paris Motor Show that the Renegade will get a new generation. Introduced in 2014, the model sold more than 610,000 units in Europe, making its departure from the brand's range a significant loss.

The new Renegade is intended to restore Jeep's position in the small SUV segment, where the manufacturer is currently represented by the Avenger. The latter has attracted nearly 300,000 buyers since its launch.

Jeep has yet to reveal the Renegade's dimensions, platform or powertrains. There is also no precise launch date. The manufacturer has confirmed only that the model will arrive in Europe by 2030 at the latest.

Line-up to grow to six SUVs

The Renegade's return is part of Jeep's broader European strategy. By 2030, the manufacturer wants to offer up to six models, spanning the small, compact and larger SUV segments.

The Jeep Recon will mark the brand's return to the D-segment, with another new model joining it in 2028. The new Compass will continue in the compact SUV segment.

Jeep plans to use various powertrains, including hybrid and electric powertrains. Every model family will also include a four-wheel-drive version to preserve the off-road capability characteristic of the brand.

The manufacturer aims to cover approximately 90 per cent of the European market for urban SUVs by 2030.

New Renegade must find its place alongside the Avenger

The Renegade's biggest challenge is to distinguish itself from the smaller Avenger and the larger Compass. In the European market, the new model will face the Renault Captur, Toyota Yaris Cross, Ford Puma and other popular compact SUVs.

Combining four-wheel drive with electrified powertrains could become a strength for Jeep. Few rivals in this size class offer serious off-road capability.

At the same time, the Renegade must avoid an excessive price increase. The Avenger already covers the more affordable end of Jeep's range, and the new model needs a clearly distinct position.

Bringing back the Renegade is a logical decision for Jeep. More than 610,000 European buyers showed that there was demand for a small Jeep with a distinctive character. Now the manufacturer must prove that the new generation can repeat that success amid much tougher competition.
