Renault has extended the electric range of the 4 E-Tech without changing its battery. The 52 kWh Comfort Range version now offers up to 415 km on the WLTP cycle, while the 40 kWh Urban Range reaches up to 310 km. The gain comes from aerodynamics, not a larger battery.

New underbody panel and mirrors reduce drag

Renault has revised the car’s underbody aerodynamics and door mirrors. Official energy consumption for the 110 kW version with a 52 kWh battery has fallen to 14.4 kWh/100 km, while its range has increased to up to 415 km.

The 90 kW version with a 40 kWh battery now reaches 310 km and has an official energy consumption figure of 14.7 kWh/100 km.

The Plein Sud version remains slightly less efficient because of its opening fabric roof, but its range also increases to up to 400 km.

New entry-level LFP version arrives at the end of the year

Renault is adding the entry-level Jogging model to the range, with a 37 kWh LFP battery and a new 80 kW electric motor.

Usable battery capacity is 36.5 kWh, with a WLTP range of up to 305 km. Acceleration from 0–100 km/h takes 10.2 seconds.

The Jogging supports DC charging at up to 80 kW, with a 10–80 per cent charge taking 25 minutes, according to the manufacturer.

Charging usability also improves

All Renault 4 E-Tech versions will get manually activated battery preheating. This allows the battery to reach a temperature suitable for rapid charging without having to plan a route in the navigation system in advance.

Other additions include a new rear-view camera, a 360-degree camera on selected versions and improved charging notifications in the My Renault app.

In the European market, 415 km is a good rather than exceptional result, but the important point is that Renault achieved the improvement with the existing 52 kWh battery. For a small electric SUV, improving aerodynamics means less weight and a lower price than adding a larger battery.
