BMW has unveiled the new electric iX4, which uses the Neue Klasse architecture and goes on sale in Europe in March 2027. The range-topping iX4 M60 xDrive produces 450 kW and 875 Nm and accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.
Two versions at launch
Sales will begin with the iX4 40 xDrive and iX4 50 xDrive. Both have two electric motors and all-wheel drive.
The iX4 40 xDrive produces 275 kW and 520 Nm and accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. WLTP range reaches 638 km.
The iX4 50 xDrive produces 345 kW and 645 Nm of torque. It takes 4.9 seconds to accelerate from 0–100 km/h and has a top speed of 210 km/h. A battery with a usable capacity of 108.7 kWh provides up to 828 km of WLTP range.
400 kW charging
The Neue Klasse Gen6 electrical system uses an 800 V architecture and cylindrical battery cells. The iX4 50 xDrive has a maximum DC charging rate of 400 kW.
According to BMW, up to 387 km of WLTP range can be added in ten minutes under ideal conditions. This puts the iX4 among the leading electric SUVs in Europe for charging capability.
M60 follows a little later
The iX4 M60 xDrive will be available to order in January 2027. Its twin-motor system produces 450 kW and 875 Nm, with a top speed of 240 km/h and a WLTP range of up to 777 km.
The M60 comes as standard with adaptive M suspension, variable-ratio sport steering and an electronically controlled M rear differential. 21-inch rims are standard, with sizes up to 22 inches available as options.
iX3 technology in a sportier body
The iX4 uses the same Neue Klasse technology platform as the iX3, but its lower, coupé-like roofline and standard M Sport package give it a sportier positioning.
BMW's new Heart of Joy control computer combines powertrain and chassis control in a single system and, according to the manufacturer, operates up to ten times faster than before. This should improve both regenerative braking and cornering behaviour.
In the European market, the iX4 will compete primarily with sporty premium electric urban SUVs. Its strongest selling point, however, is not the 450 kW flagship but the 50 xDrive's combination of 828 km of range and 400 kW charging.
